5 busts of Iranian Olympic Medalists were unveiled with presence of Dr. Seyed Reza Salehi Amiri, NOC President and Dr. Seyed Hamid Sajjadi, the Sports Minister.
Iran NOC; Tehran: Alireza Dabir,
Yousof Karami, Morad Mohammadi, Hamid Sourian and Behdad Salimi were the
prominent Olympians whose busts were unveiled at Iran NOA with presence of
their families and top-ranking sports officials and directors. Samira Asghari,
the youngest IOC Member was also present in the ceremony. President of the
National Olympic Committee emphasized: “The philosophy of such work has a clear
message, and that is Iranian sports have a history and identity, and the second
message is that our view of the heroes is not a tool to pay attention to only
when winning medals, but these values should always be. They should be seen and
forgetting should be abandoned and we should remember the day when Dabir went
on the podium, the heart of a nation was happy and we should be grateful to
them and they should be honored in history forever”.
Referring to the presence of
Samira Asghari in the ceremony, Dr. Salehi Amiri held: “We consider her as the
representative of the women of the Islamic world in the International Olympic
Committee and I appreciate her for her efforts”. Also, Dr. Seyed Hamid Sajjadi,
the Minister of Sports and Youth, said at the unveiling ceremony: “We have
always been advised to have a culture of gratitude and respect, and that's why
we are here to remember and thank the stars and heroes of Iranian sports”.
